Provincial records show that 82 percent of Mi'kmaq artisans list fishing income as primary, requiring program schedules to avoid lobster and scallop seasons.
Fit assessment examines whether proposed mentorship matches existing craft specialization in each district: basketry in Cape Breton, quillwork on the South Shore. Applications that list non-Mi'kmaq partners as lead instructors are screened out at initial review.
