Nonprofits must also obtain Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector checks for all presenters.

Demographic patterns show 52% of students attend rural schools with limited access to urban animal shelters. Halifax Regional Municipality accounts for 40% of total enrolment, yet the remaining six counties contain smaller class sizes and fewer extracurricular resources. Indigenous students in Mi’kmaq communities represent 4% of enrolment and require culturally specific content on traditional animal stewardship.

Funding supports curriculum development and delivery by reimbursing up to $45,000 per approved program for materials, presenter stipends, and evaluation tools. Applicants must submit alignment matrices mapping activities to Nova Scotia curriculum documents and provide pre- and post-assessment data from at least 300 students annually.
